Halloween Costume Party: 7 Themes
Beyond Spooky Season
Halloween parties do not have to be all cobwebs and plastic skeletons. A themed costume party gives guests creative direction and makes your event memorable.
1. Decades Party
Assign each group a decade: 70s disco, 80s neon, 90s grunge, 2000s pop. Play era-specific music in different rooms.
2. Movie Villains Only
Heroes are overdone. Require villain costumes: Darth Vader, the Joker, Ursula, Maleficent. The darker aesthetic makes for dramatic photos.
3. Profession Swap
Everyone dresses as a profession they have never held: astronaut, deep-sea diver, lion tamer. Bonus points for elaborate props.
4. Group Mythology
Assign groups to coordinate as mythological creatures or gods: Greek pantheon, Norse gods, Egyptian deities.
5. Punny Costumes
Costumes that are visual puns: "cereal killer" (mini cereal boxes with fake knives), "French kiss" (KISS band makeup plus beret).
6. Black and White Ball
Elegant formal wear, strictly black and white. Think Audrey Hepburn or classic film noir. Monochrome creates stunning group photos.
7. Childhood Characters
Dress as characters from childhood media: Saturday morning cartoons, children's books, or toy brands. Nostalgic and hilarious.
